Submit for our Spring 2025 Workshop!

Submission Info

Thanks to the generous support of Manitoba Arts Council and Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Lavender Theatrical Productions will be holding a table read of the updated script and score of Just Friends on May 11, 2025, and a movement workshop from May 26-30, 2025.

Show Description:

Taylor and Lainey were best friends growing up, but lost touch after moving away from home. After rediscovering letters from their childhood, they reignite their friendship through written correspondence. Cut to Taylor unceremoniously dumping their brooding boyfriend, Lainey leaving her toxic fiancée, and they suddenly find themselves back home and back in each other’s lives. Just Friends explores what it means to be queer, still a little bit in love with your ex, and a lot in love with your best friend.

We are casting for all roles in the show! Each character must be available for the following dates:

Taylor & Lainey - May 11 (10:00am-2:00pm), May 26-30 (4:00pm-8:00pm)

Greg & Ande - May 11 (10:00am-2:00pm), May 26, 27 & 30 (4:00pm-8:00pm)

Mackenzie - May 11 (10:00am-2:00pm)

+ an additional music coaching session at a time convenient for the actors and music director

As a practise of informed consent, the movement workshop will involve scenes that depict different forms of relationship and intimacy between characters. Touch boundaries and communication will be facilitated by a certified Intimacy Choreographer. Actors who are interested in and familiar with building principles of consent are encouraged to apply.

All roles will receive a $100 honorarium for each day they are required, +$50 for the additional coaching session.
